French Toast In The Oven
Day 271 (27th May)
This french toast recipe is a dream! I took inspiration from John Kanell's casserole but switched it up a bit. Let me know if you like it :D
Recipe (For Two Servings)
Ingredients:
For the base:
Four slices of whole wheat bread
One egg
Half a cup of milk
One-fourth cup of melted butter
One-fourth cup of brown sugar
One teaspoon of caramel extract
A pinch of cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg
For the topping:
Two tablespoons of brown sugar
One tablespoon of softened butter
A pinch of cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg
Optional:
Vanilla ice cream
Directions:
1) Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
2) Grease an oven-safe dish with oil/butter.
3) Cut up your bread slices into cubes.
4) Mix the egg, milk, butter, sugar, caramel extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
5) Add the bread to the mixture.
6) Plop everything in the baking dish.
7) Combine the brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.
8) Spread the mix on top of the (uncooked) french toast using a butter knife.
9) Bake for 35 to 40 minutes till crispy on top.
10) Top with vanilla ice cream and serve fresh!
