Day 47 (15/10): Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hay-lo (hehe). Today's blog will take a bit of a different format! I will first be delving into the history of chocolate chip cookies and then move on to the actual recipe! Comment to let me know if you like this format more than the typical one. :)

Origin

Chocolate chip cookies came into existence almost a hundred years ago. A common myth states that Ruth Graves Wakefield (one of the inventors) accidentally developed the cookies. She added chocolate chunks to the cookies, supposedly expecting them to melt and make chocolate cookies. Though, unlike chocolate, chocolate chip cookies were a deliberate invention. The Toll House Inn, which Wakefield owned, served butterscotch nut cookies. While trying to invent something similar (albeit with a twist) for the patrons, Wakefield came up with the Toll House cookie – adding chopped Nestlé chocolate bits to a cookie.

The original recipe is featured in Toll House Tried and True Recipes and is called the "Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie."

Eventually, Wakefield sold her recipe to Nestlé in exchange for a lifetime supply of Nestlé chocolate.

Sue Brides, Ruth's right-hand lady, was also heavily involved in the invention of chocolate chip cookies!

For day 47, I made a chocolate chip cookie in the microwave! While browsing YouTube, as one does, I came across a one-minute chocolate chip cookie recipe. Immediately after watching the video, I knew I had to make the cookie because a) I was tired after making the sticky buns and wanted to make something simpler, and b) because I wanted to give another one of Emma's Goodies' recipes a try. If you remember, I previously made the pop tarts, and they didn't go too well. I was hoping that this one would go better since I love the channel. :)

Luckily, this one did not disappoint AT ALL. My mom and I loved it! She couldn't believe that it took less than 15 minutes for the whole thing to come together.

These are perfect for when you want a chocolate chip cookie but don't want to spend a lot of time making a fresh batch. They are perfect for a small dessert after a meal.

It was the perfect balance between crunchy and gooey!

See you tomorrow! :)
