Day 2 (31/08): Cake Jar

Yesterday (day 2), I set out to make Nigella Lawson's Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake. In full transparency, I have made this cake before (albeit in a small quantity), and it was one of the best dry chocolate cakes I've ever had. It is perfect to take as a small dessert on road trips or picnics.

However, this time, the recipe didn't go according to plan. When I'd made this the first time, the oven temperature was at 175°C throughout. This time I kept the temperature at 190°C for around 25 minutes after decreasing it to 175°C. This was advised in the recipe, but my cake ended up exploding.

Nevertheless, I could salvage some crumbled cake! I made a cake jar with caramel whipped cream (mixing a few drops of caramel essence to whipped cream) and the cake crumble.

Here's the final product:

And here's a fun time-lapse of me making the cake:

Though the recipe didn't go as planned, the final product tasted good. I was proud of myself for turning the situation around. See you on day 3!

Note: When you're warming the water in the microwave, please use a mug. I burnt my fingertips because I used a bowl (it's harder to take a bowl out of the microwave).
